AWS Truewind has been selected by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) to participate in a one-of-a-kind competition aimed to specifically address ramp event forecasting. The official press announcement, released by BPA on August 4th, details the objectives of the exercise and cites AWS Truewind as one of only two firms selected to participate in the friendly competition. AWS Truewind will begin delivering forecasts this month for four wind projects in Oregon and Washington using publicly available data from 2007.
This is an exciting project with potential to support the growth of wind power in the Pacific Northwest and really around the globe,” said Phil Barbour, a research meteorologist at Oregon State’s Energy Resources Research Laboratory and member of the peer review team. “Winds are often very localized and difficult to predict. It’s even harder to predict these specific ramp events. This is a huge challenge for the competing teams (BPA).
With over 14,000 MW of operational wind projects in its forecasting portfolio and an experience team of forecasting experts, AWS Truewind is well prepared for the unique challenge. To learn more about AWS Truewind’s forecasting services visit our website or contacts us.
