AWS Truepower Releases 1st Wind Trends Bulletin Report for India
September 27, 2011

AWS Truepower, LLC, has released the first installment of India’s Wind Trends Bulletin, a quarterly analytical wind report. The report reviews wind in India for the second quarter. The analysis is based on AWS Truepower’s long-term simulated wind resource data set and is conducted by a team of expert meteorologists.

“We are excited about providing customers in India with their own version of the Wind Trends Bulletin. In the United States and Europe, it has been a valuable resource for identifying wind resource performance.” stated Arvinder Singh, India Business Head.

Highlights from the Wind Trend bulletin include:

- Nearly all of India experienced below normal wind speeds during April and May.

- Wind speeds rebounded in June, but were not strong enough to balance the strong negative deviations present during April and May throughout much of southern India.

“Winds during the second quarter were substantially below normal,” said Michael Brower, AWS Truepower’s Chief Technical Officer. “This continues the pattern of the previous two years. The problem is especially severe in the southern half of the country, where the bulk of Indian wind projects are located.”  AWS Truepower plans to conduct further research into the wind anomalies in India.

AWS Truepower’s Wind Trends Bulletin provides wind plant owners, investors and operators with a high level analysis of wind resource performance influenced by climatic fluctuations. The analysis provides wind project stakeholders with a benchmark to compare observed performance and aids in identifying potential issues with plant underperformance.
