Our skilled team of approximately 75 meteorologists, engineers, and environmental specialists are field-oriented and fully conversant with large commercial projects, utility electrical systems, remote field measurements, and distributed applications. AWST’s core leadership team, consisting of the founding principals, directors and senior staff, drives the company to constantly examine processes and establish best practices. Leadership

 

President / Chief Executive Officer

Bruce Bailey has been involved in the renewable energy and environmental fields since the 1980s and is one of the world’s leading authorities on wind and solar energy applications.  He has been project director for hundreds of contracts in the areas of renewable energy technology applications, resource assessment, meteorology, offshore development, and air quality on behalf of utility, government, and industrial clients.  Bruce is widely published and frequently gives presentations at domestic and international conferences.   He has acted as Program Chair for numerous industry conferences, was a U.S. Department of Energy Wind Program Reviewer for several years, and has been a thesis mentor and guest instructor for several universities. As President and CEO of AWS Truepower, Bruce drives business strategy.

Chief Technical Officer

Michael Brower has been involved in the renewable energy field for nearly 20 years. Early in his career he conducted research and analysis on energy and environmental issues for the Union of Concerned Scientists and as a private consultant. He was the lead author of the groundbreaking study, Powering the Midwest, which helped jumpstart wind development in the upper Midwest in the early 1990s, and wrote Cool Energy: Renewable Solutions to Environmental Problems (MIT Press, 1992) and The Consumer’s Guide to Environmental Problems (Three Rivers Press, 1999). In his roles as Principal of TrueWind Solutions and, later, Vice President and Director of Meteorology and Modeling Services for AWS Truewind, Michael led the development of the MesoMap® and SiteWind® mapping and micrositing systems and the eWind® forecasting system, wrote AWS Truewind’s Manual of Procedures for resource and energy assessment, and personally led assessments of over 5000 MW of renewable energy projects. As CTO of AWS Truepower, Michael leads product development and helps ensure quality and standards across the company.

Principal / Director of Forecasting

John Zack has been involved with the development and application of physics-based numerical atmospheric modeling systems since the early 1980s. He has considerable experience in the use of advanced statistical models, such as Artificial Neural Networks, to atmospheric prediction applications.  He is an expert in both synoptic and dynamic meteorology and is very accomplished in analyzing model generated data and applying meteorological knowledge to understand and improve atmospheric modeling techniques. John is a leading authority in the application of atmospheric modeling techniques for the purpose of producing resource maps and forecasts for the renewable energy industry. He has been the principal investigator of several multi-year research projects funded by a diverse mix of federal agencies including the Department of Defense, NASA, the Department of Agriculture and Department of Commerce – NOAA. He has published numerous papers and peer-reviewed journal articles and has several years experience teaching meteorology at both the graduate and undergraduate level. As Director of Forecasting for AWS Truepower, John has a key role in forecasting product development.

Corporate Controller

Sophy Lai has over 15 years of experience in finance and accounting management for publicly-traded and privately-held companies. As Corporate Controller she leads the company’s financial and administration operations including accounting and reporting, financial planning and analysis, human resources, and contract administration. Prior to this role, Sophy served as Corporate Controller to Beech-nut Nutrition Corporation where she oversaw corporate finance and led office relocation efforts with a new finance team and SAP implementation. She also served as Corporate Controller for TII Network Technologies, Inc. a public-traded international telecommunication company where she was responsible for SEC filings, internal control, treasury and taxes management, and led an outsourcing operation by setting up a Hong Kong Holding Company and a China WFOE company to enhance outsourcing operations and taxes incentives. Sophy has a Bachelor of Accounting from Chih-Lee College of Business, as well as a Bachelor of Finance and a Master of Business Administration from New York Institute of Technology.

Vice President of Consulting Services

Marie Schnitzer’s career spans twenty years in the renewable and alternative energy power generation technology fields. As Vice President of Consulting Services she provides strategic direction and technical expertise to the development and growth of the company’s wind and solar energy consulting, including services to support Project Development, Investment & Finance, Grid Integration, Plant Operations, and Government Planning. Prior to this role Marie served as Senior Director of Solar Services and Investor Services, where she was responsible for growth and oversight of AWS Truepower’s investment grade resource and energy assessment activities, feasibilities studies, solar system program design and verification, grid integration and short-term forecasting. Her extensive background includes operational leadership, technical leadership in product development of advanced materials and power generation products; as well as various process improvement and methods development within manufacturing, research and supply chain areas. Marie holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration.

Director of Business Development

Christopher Dorando has been a marketing and sales executive in the renewable energy and telecommunications industries for over 20 years.His proven track record includes contributing to corporate growth, new product introductions, and gaining market share for companies such as Alstom Power and Kansas City Power & Light. As Director of Business Development at AWS Truepower, Chris leads a team of business development, account management and marketing professionals focused on marketing strategy, client satisfaction, new product introduction, and market development. Chris has an MBA from the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business Administration and a certificate in technology marketing from Caltech.

Chief Engineer

Dan Bernadett’s career, which began in the late 1980s, includes a broad range of renewable energy applications and disciplines including: wind energy and photovoltaic systems, system design and integration, siting and project development, mechanical and electrical (both AC and DC) subsystems, field installation and data acquisition, maintenance, due diligence, aerodynamics, financial analysis, reporting, and technical training.  His career at AWS Truepower began in the early 1990s and since that time Dan has been the project manager for several thousand megawatts of projects in the U.S. and Canada. This experience encompasses numerous wind and solar technology and resource assessment studies for both domestic and international clients. Dan is a licensed professional engineer in the State of New York.

Chief Meteorologist

Mike Markus has been involved with the application of meteorological measurement and analysis techniques to the renewable energy and air quality fields since the early 1980s including multiple years of experience in atmospheric research and remote sensing for severe storms. Mike has conducted comprehensive wind resource and energy production prediction assessments for hundreds of projects.  He has managed numerous meteorological monitoring projects involving site selection, permitting, instrumentation, and data analysis and reporting. In addition, Mr. Markus has experience with wind mapping, GIS and expert system forecasting tools. His knowledge of the North American wind resource and vast experience with the interpretation of wind flow characteristics over complex terrain and siting of prospective wind power plants makes him a powerful asset to the AWS Truepower team.

Vice President Asia Pacific

Mr. Sreeni Krishnamurthy has over 18 years of experience in information technology and engineering industries. As Vice President he is responsible for strategizing and growing the Asia Pacific market for AWS Truepower’s wind and solar consulting services. Prior to this role Sreeni oversaw the development and implementation of the AWS Truepower’s subscriptions services and software products as Director of Information Services, and was the Director of International Operations at Autotask, a software as a service-based company. Sreeni has experience building and managing in a global setting – China, Canada, Dubai, Germany, India, Ireland, Oman, Singapore, Spain and USA. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Bangalore, India, a Master of Business Administration, and is a Certified Project Manager.

Vice President of International Business

Mr. Joan Aymami has been involved in the renewable energy industry for over ten years. As Vice President of International Business he oversees AWS Truepower’s European and Latin American operations and is responsible for a company-wide business development coordination, strategy and market intelligence. Early in his career Joan worked for the meteorology group at the University of Barcelona on different national and international research projects that focused on the use of mesoscale Numerical Weather Prediction models. In 2003, Joan founded Meteosim SL, a Barcelona University spin-off company that specialized in the development of customized applications and solutions for the renewable industry sector. In 2007 he founded Meteosim TrueWind SL, which later merged with AWS Truepower in 2011. For eight years Joan served as the CEO of Meteosim TrueWind and was responsible for managing the company operations, leading business development activities in Europe and Latin America, and building relationships across partners, developers, agencies and other renewable industry members.

Business Development Director Europe and Latin-American

Mr. Parés has been working in Meteorology since 1987, initially as a ‘weather man’ in the public Spanish Television and later as founder and comercial director in Meteosim SL, a University of Barcelona spin-off, focused in the development of meteorological consultancy. From the very beginning, the role of Mr. Parés was the analysis of potential markets and design of new products based on numerical weather prediction, the company’s core technology. He became, later, business development Director of Meteosim Truewind (the joint venture of AWS Truepower and Meteosim SL). For more than 5 years, Santi leaded all the international business activities in Europe and Latin America expanding renewable wind energy consulting services to different European and Spanish speaking markets, including Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil among some others. Today, Santi is the Business Development Director for Europe and Latin America of AWS Truepower. He is the responsible of expanding the company to new regions and also to identify potential opportunities in the energy consulting market. He is responsible of managing relationships with main customers, both private companies and governmental agencies and also represents the company in European and Latin-American forums.

Assistant Director, Wind Developer Services

Mr. Vidal has been working in Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) since the mid 1990s, initially as a researcher and later as an Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona, taking part in several projects for regional and state government, as well as for the European Union. After this stage in the purely academic world, he became founder of Meteosim, a company oriented to the development of commercial meteorological products. From the very beginning, the role of Mr. Vidal was the technical leading in the fields where NWP, the company’s core technology, is more related with the wind industry, including mapping and forecasting. As Assistant Director of Wind Developer Services, Mr. Vidal is responsible of the projects developed in the Barcelona office in the fields of wind and energy resource assessment, project consulting and due diligence; as well as the local technical reference for staff and clients.
