WEBINAR: Solar Input Data for PV Energy Modeling

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

AWS Truepower presented a webinar for NREL’s System Advisor Model (SAM) Virtual Conference. Discussion included how selecting the most appropriate solar resource data is critical for improving the confidence of energy simulations in SAM. We also evaluated the use of default weather files in SAM and quantifed the uncertainty associated with these input data sets.

On-Site Measurement vs TMY Data for Energy Modeling

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

AWS Truepower presented a poster at ASES 2012 based on the idea that using an 8760 data set of on-site measurement instead of a TMY data set for input into energy modeling may do a better job at representing a site’s long-term solar resource, resulting in more accurate energy modeling for a project site. AWS Truepower presented a novel approach to generate high-frequency irradiance and power data using low-frequency inputs at ASES 2012. To download paper, click here. To download presentation, click here.

The Impact of Solar Uncertainty on Project Financing

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

AWS Truepower presented a case study at ASES 2012 on how you can reduce a project’s uncertainty through the use of on-site monitoring.  To download paper, click here. To download presentation, click here.

Understanding the Variation in Long-Term Solar Resource Estimates

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

AWS Truepower presented a paper at ASES 2012 on P50 Variation.

It is a review on how multiple data sets used for the same location will result in different P50 values. So how do you know which data set to select to represent your project site? To download paper, Click here. To download presentation, click here.

Quantifying the Accuracy of MCP for Long-Term Solar Resource Estimates

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

Chris Thuman of AWS Truepower presented solar MCP at ASES 2012.

It includes a review of methods to combine short period on-site measurements with historical long-term data sets to estimate the long-term solar resource. The uncertainty of this method is also quantified in this work.

Grid Congestion and Pricing: Barrier or Opportunity?

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Whitney Wilson, Senior Engineer of AWS Truepower will present a poster on grid congestion and pricing at Windpower 2012. The focus is to identify opportunities for offshore wind development areas that have high power prices and available capacity to accept additional generation.

The Wind Forecasting Improvement Project: Overview And Preliminary Results

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Jeff Freedman, Lead Research Scientist of AWS Truepower will present a poster at Windpower 2012 on The Wind Forecasting Improvement Project (WFIP). This is a two-year Department of Energy (DOE)/National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) sponsored study to demonstrate the value of additional atmospheric observations and model enhancements on 0- to 6-hour (short term) wind energy production forecasts.
