Technical Director, Information Services
Tom Lambert has developed software for the renewable power industry for 19 years. He created the wind data analysis software Windographer in 2005 and has directed its development since then. He joined AWS Truepower in 2014 where he serves as Technical Director of Information Services and continues to lead the Windographer team. He oversees software development, user interface design, technical support, documentation, and training.
His skills at building an effective team, devising data visualization techniques, programming efficient mathematical algorithms, designing elegant user interfaces, and responding to the needs of the market, have helped Windographer grow into a global standard in the wind power industry. It is used in over 70 countries, by most of the world’s major wind power producers.
Prior to his current role, he served as lead developer of the hybrid system simulation software HOMER for the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He transformed HOMER from a limited-capability model used only inside NREL into a powerful and user-friendly tool that has since been downloaded by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. In the process he provided technical support to users in over 100 countries, and led training workshops on four continents on the topic of hybrid renewable power system design.
He holds a BSc degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alberta, an MSc in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University, and professional engineering certification in Alberta.
