According to AWS Truepower’s Wind Trends maps and Wind Index, in the first quarter of 2017, winds were above-normal relative to the long-term, first quarter norm (1988-2014) across much of the United States, Canada, and eastern Brazil. Winds were below-normal across most of Europe and Asia. Above-normal winds overspread much of the United States since the previous quarter. Most wind-producing areas experienced winds 0% to 3% above the norm. Download

According to reanalysis data, many of the world’s key wind-producing areas experienced below-normal winds in 2016. Amongst the top producers, deficits as strong as -7% in mean speed were experienced country wide, with localized deficits reaching -10% to -15% in places such as southern Argentina and northern Scandinavia. Of the top twenty countries with the highest installed wind capacity (which represent 95% of the world’s installed wind capacity), only four experienced above-normal winds. Download


Wind Trends Bulletin – Q4 2016

According to AWS Truepower’s Wind Trends maps and Wind Index, in the fourth quarter of 2016, average wind speeds were about normal (within 3%) relative to the long-term, fourth-quarter norm (1988-2014) across the wind-producing areas of North America, Asia, and Africa. Winds were moderately above normal (+4%) in South America, and substantially below normal (-11%) across Europe. Download
